Evaluation: Question 4

What have you learned from audience feedback?

Audience feedback is a way in which we can reflect on the strengths and weaknesses of our production. It is significant to us at this point the project as it allows us to come to conclusions about whether or not we have met the expectations of our target audience through our thorough research into several factors, in order to plan and construct the media products.

Our original target audience was young females from late teens to early twenties. We also created a audience member profile, to give a more realistic and lively approach to the way we viewed our target audience.

What has been said and what can I reflect upon from this feedback?

Post production, I went out to gain some feedback on our finished media products. Several members of the audience offered to give me some constructive feedback and criticism in order for me to infer the true significance behind audience feedback and what I can learn from obtaining and absorbing information from it.

My audience admired:

 - EDITING: in particular repetition edits during the beginning scene, which suggests the audience like special effects, drawing particular attention to the main performing artist. The repetition used emphasises the artist image

- The transitions through to each scene are slick and work well with the video/back track, not harsh or unexpected cuts to ruin the rhythm and progress of the video. This shows the audience admire the organisation and quality of the video overall, and this may highlight that the experience the video creates for the viewer is an important aspect

- Aspects of Mise-en-scene, such as the use of colour, in particular the black and white in the video (costume, black rose petals, master track location). This suggests that the audience find videos more enjoyable when it is evident that the video has been thought about in terms of linking locations, costumes and themes together.

Things that could have been reconsidered/improved:

- Mise-en-scene, locations could have been reconsidered. This may highlight that the audience would have liked to see more interesting or locations which better link products, artist and imagery together

Ancillary feedback:

Audience admired:

- The clear connection between all three products and the synergy between them. Creating identifiable and interlinking products is an important aspect by creating raised awareness of artist image, particularly in this instance where our artist Adara Black is fairly new and emerging. For example, the use of an image from the same location in the video was used in the advert, which creates a clear link between both

- The placement of text, images and graphics. This signifies that the audience will want to see/read things that are clear, concise and simple, yet at the same time maintain their intricacy and artistic expressions in close relation to the intended image of the artist.

Things that could have bee reconsidered/improved:

- Social links would have improved the advert. By including these links, it gives the audiences another way to connect to the artist as many have social networking accounts. I have learned that this increases awareness of the artist, and is particularly important for an emerging one as it allows for an effective way to promote artist media products.

I personally believe that based on my reflection of the comments and criticism provided by the audience, the media products were a success. This was mainly based on sufficient research and planning into  audience expectations, forms and conventions of music videos and ancillary products and conforming to forms and conventions.
