Planning - Inspiring Music Videos

This is a previous Media Studies groups music video.

I found this inspiring to use as they have a similar theme to us in terms of having one main female artist and also their use of effects and editing techniques are very subtle but effective and give an urban vibe, which is one aspect we want for our music video.

Planning - Choices for Costume, Setting, Location and Props

Setting/Location:

The setting for our music video is in various parts of London, The more central locations such as Granary Square, Millennium Bridge and Greenwich Foot Tunnel.
The setting is more towards the end of the day/evening, when the sun is setting. As this gives our video the look we want and it suits the style we are trying to create. It looks more urban and underground and therefore is more relative towards our core target audience.
Granary Square has the fountains, which is where we are mainly going to be filming, there is also lighting, which creates a warmer atmosphere. Greenwich foot tunnel has a more underground, urban feel. it is darker also. And millennium bridge is very central, busy and shows the heart of the city.

Costume:

The look we want to give Adara Black is edgy, eccentric and fun with an aspect of sophistication. The clothes she will be wearing also relate to our colour theme; red, black and white. Which brings a connection to how we go about incorporating synergy also.
The reason why we want her to have this kind of look is because again, this is the kind of style our core target audience wears and aspires to the most and adding more sophisticated outfits will show her variety in fashion as well as inviting more people to take an interest.

Props:

Our main prop is a heart shaped by back roses. This again is in connection with our synergy image we are creating, as the rose is black and is used on her website as well other media aspects.

Research - Reference to Synergy and the Meaning of the Black Rose

One of the main props used in our music video, is also used to help recognise our artist, a black rose.

The black rose has been used to symbolize the start of new things or a major change in the direction of life. For some, it has been used to inspire enthusiasm and signal a new lease on life.

It has been used to symbolise more detrimental feelings such as death and hatred, however it has also been known to have the meaning of black and beauty and they appear a lot in fiction.

Research, Planning and Production all in one (part 2)

Ordering the rose petal prop

During the research and planning stage of the project our group came up with the idea that as a form of branding and synergy we would use black rose petals. I ordered 1000 rose petals so we can create a heart made of rose petals and also use them singly. We came up with the idea from looking at Taylor Swift's 22 video (seen in previous blogs)

On the penultimate slide above there are screensots of the videos I have posted below..

Research - Inspiring Music Videos

I found this video inspiring partly because of how real it looks, as well as it being set around London, more central parts and on the underground. We are also filming in central locations.

This video also illustrates the conventional cuts of music video, even though it isn't in the same style as there are no males present in our video.

It is of the disjuncture style and also conveys certain aspects of a pop video one being fun and upbeat, gives the illusion of moving with them in certain shots.

Production - Skills Development

The process of planning with both productions from AS and A2 have been very different in my experience.

If I'm honest, I'd say that this year has been not as organized as it was last year for me. Even though we have planned a schedule for practically the month, including space for blogging as well as filming. Last year I was on top of everything and every detail was planned to the time and we stuck to it. I also feel that last year we were able to get on straight away with filming, this year feels a bit more like everything is on top of each other. And the time frame we have to film, edit and produce our music video is not that long.

In AS we planed where we were filming and what time, frequently whilst discussing when we were able to do this. We also planned times and places we would meet and what we were doing about equipment the day before. We made sure we got everything done within college time as we didn't want to waste any time and also give ourselves a break.  therefore our whole production was done a little earlier, giving us time to tweak anything we weren't sure about or happy with.
