Paul Willis, 1990
As a group we had taken in to consideration that audience would be one of the most important aspects of music production. We need to aim to target the correct audiences in order for it to be an overall success.

If we consider the nature of Cheryl Cole's music, it is very likely that it is the kind of music you'd find playing in clubs. A lot of her music is very upbeat and lively, so it is suitable for these kind of environments. This would mean young adults would frequently listen to her music, as they enjoy going out with friends to the club to party. A lot of females may idolise Cheryl aswell, linking back to Paul Willis' quote above, Cheryl being a 'symbolic vehicle' conveying different imagery of herself to her audience, and consequently the audience are influenced by many different things which they may see their favourite artist wearing, such as dresses.
When analysing lyrics from Cheryl Cole's songs, it is quite clear that her intended audience is for females. Below is a sound clip of Cheryl Cole's "Call My Name" to help in the understanding of intended audience:
We can draw from the song that Cheryl is talking about another man who she may be in love with 'How'd do you think you feel when you call my name?' is what she sings, and other young women may relate to this.
Furthermore, if we take a look at some of the costumes Cheryl wears, she is frequently dressed in trendy, modern styled clothes. The dresses she wears may inspire young women to dress similarly, as Cheryl looks good in it, it'll give them the confidence to maybe even try out new styles. Due to the nature of costume, we can tell the target audience is towards young women. A wider audience would possibly be young males as there is a sense that dismemberment of Cheryl's body appear in her videos. This projects the view of the male gaze, relating to Laura Mulvey's theory on the male gaze projection within modern music videos.
